I'm glad you're here! Now, let's get rid of your excuses.
If you're here, you're looking for my very best tips on making a 6-figure income while working part-time hours. If you're anything like me, you're giving yourself excuse after excuse on why you CANNOT do this. I'm here to tell you that you can. It all starts with your mindset and obliterating those excuses. Ridding yourself of these 7 common excuses will enable you to find tremendous success.
“This is a get rich quick plan, right?”
Wrong. If you’re looking for a get-rich-with-no-effort scheme, building with doTERRA is simply not for you. In fact, my experience has shown me that people who are sitting around waiting for that money train to roll up aren’t the people that will take this opportunity seriously. Treat this as a real business because it is a real business! It’s not just a hobby. You simply can’t create something serious if you’re only putting in minimal effort and just waiting for money to fall from the sky. Putting in just 3 hours a week is not going to help you replace your income. It just doesn’t work.
However, doTERRA is something that when you put time and effort into it, it becomes extremely lucrative. I am pushing 7 figures right now. The cool thing is that I work really hard for 15-20 hours a week for these results. All of this happened because I took this business opportunity seriously.
Let me tell it to you this way: You will get out of doTERRA what you put into it. If you put in a $5 effort, you're going to get a $5 result. You wouldn’t expect to open up a bakery and expect to make money working there 3 hours a week so why would you expect that with doTERRA?
“I am afraid to get out of my comfort zone.”
This is really more of a personal improvement and self development company than anything. Yes, you are selling essential oils, but really what we are doing is focusing on developing ourselves. You’re going to take risks. You’re going to push yourself. You’re going to make (and crush!) goals. You’re going to find your best self.
As I’m pushing for my next goal, I’m doing things that I’ve never done before in my experience with this company. That can be so scary. But as Albert Einstein exclaimed, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.” Don’t let yourself become insane. The truth of the matter is that you are going to have to do new things to get new results.
Nothing feels better than overcoming a fear. When you actually do something that is scary for you, it's the best feeling, isn't it? Success is outside of your comfort zone. That's where the growth happens!
“I’m not a salesperson.”
Let me take the pressure off of you about one very important thing: You don’t have to be a salesperson to succeed in network marketing. Do you feel that? That’s a huge burden lifted. Time to exhale!
I would not consider myself a salesperson. In fact, I hate sales. Yes, I know doTERRA is a commission job and YES, I know I am selling essential oils but I’m not smoking a cigar with greasy hair trying to sell you a used car. That stresses me out; I just don’t have the personality for it. Let go of that stereotype and harness the unique talents that you have which may or may not include sales.
There’s no one right set of characteristics for this job. You don’t have to succeed in sales to be successful with doTERRA. There is not just one type of personality that succeeds with doTERRA although there are some common characteristics. All of my best leaders love to share what they are learning, are passionate people, driven, and motivated. If you look at the top leaders in doTERRA, their personalities could not be more different and yet they are all killing it!
“I don’t have time to build a business!”
This is not about having time. This is about creating priorities for yourself. If I have time, so do you. What’s that saying? “You have as many hours in a day as Beyonce.” You just need to decide what you’re going to create in those 24 hours for yourself and for your family.
Yes, there is a little bit of a sacrifice in the beginning, but long-term my husband and I are actually working LESS than we would be if we were pushing full-time jobs. Together we are able to roam and travel the world with our family and do what we want because of the sacrifice and effort we put in at the beginning. Two years of really hard work put us in a great place! Prioritize what is important to you.
Let’s call this what it is: Saying you don’t have time is an excuse. You have the time, you just have to prioritize it.
“My day is already full. When am I going to Build?”
Set dedicated hours for yourself. I love the bakery analogy. You aren’t going to say, “I’m going to open to bakery and it’s just randomly going to be open.” You’ve got to be consistent or you’re never going have customers buying pastries on a consistent and stable basis.
Many doTERRA leaders have found success in the beginning of their journey even while working a full-time job somewhere else. They wake up early and put in a couple hours before their regular work day or they attending trainings during their lunch hour.
My most successful builders are young mothers! If there’s one thing these mamas know how do, it’s HUSTLE. They work in the quiet hours before the children wake up for school. They make calls and record trainings during nap time. They are learning and growing after they tuck their littles into bed.
Think of all the different times of day that you’re watching Netflix or scrolling through Facebook. Could you give up a show or two every day and set dedicated hours for yourself in an effort to create a long-term residual income for yourself and your family? I know you can!
“I’m just going to try it for a little bit and see how it goes.”
If you want to be successful, you’ve got to be consistent. I’m talking about consistent efforts. It’s true that you don’t have to go all-out and put in 40 hours a week with this. You could be very successful doing just 5-10 dedicated and consistent hours! Your success may not be as quick as someone who is putting in 40 hours a week, but if you’re really efficient with your time, you could grow something substantial doing 5-10 hours a week! Consistent effort is absolutely key.
“This is too hard.”
Being willing to stick with it when it’s hard is huge. Here’s me being super vulnerable with you: There are MANY days that I want to quit this business. It’s true! I have days when I’m like, “I am burned out. I am worn out. I am tired of being told no. I’m tired of being excited that someone is going to enroll and then having them change their mind.” We all have days like that. It’s about being willing to stick with it even though, YES, it gets hard. It’s like being a mom! Some days I just want to run away to paradise! HA! But in the end, it is so worth it, right?
Stick with this business even when it gets hard and I promise you that with consistent effort, dedicated hours, prioritization, using your unique talents, getting out of your comfort zone, and, of course, good old-fashioned hard work, you WILL see your dreams come true.
